This colorful book belongs to the series „Usborne beginners“. At our library one could find a good selection of books belonging to these series.
The book begins with an introduction from where we get to know who reptiles actually are. There are four main kind of reptiles: crocodiles, snakes, lizards and turtles. Although they look pretty different – they all have scally, waterproof skin, they lay eggs nad they are cold-blooded. It means that they need sun and warmth to stay alive. Some of reptiles are living in Estonia too.
Reptiles shed their skin as they grow bigger. We can see interesting illustrations about how snakes rub their head against a rock and skin peels off.
We can see pictures about how they hunt for food. Some snakes kill their prey with venom, crocodiles grab zebras and eat them, chameleons use their sticky tonques to catch small flies and other insects.
Although there is not mentioned any word about Estonian reptiles in this book, it is interesting to know, that in Estonia we have five species of them.
We can find photos as well as pictures in this book. There is a glossary of words with illustrations, suggestions to visit different websites, and index of words mentioned in the book. On the last page we can see photos of different books belonging to the same series.
This easy-to-read text is for children who are beginning to read on their own and for those, who learn English.
